A note from the dvd compiler:
I bought Paul’s Boutique on cassette in 1989. I was fifteen at the time. Nineteen years later, it remains one of my favorite albums and is one of the few from that time in my life that I still revisit. Each listen brings the same excitement and freshness I remember when I first heard it.
Over the past couple years, I decided to dig deeper into the record and check out the source material. I wanted to hear the samples in their original context. Listening to these songs makes it clear just how talented the Dust Brothers and Beastie Boys are. Their ability to tear apart songs from so many different genres and reconstruct them into a seamless hip-hop symphony is simply amazing. Some of these tracks were kept relatively intact on the record and will be instantly recognizable, while others may take multiple listens to spot the 5 or 10 seconds that were sampled. I hope this collection reminds listeners of what a sonic masterpiece Paul’s Boutique truly is and that you enjoy listening to these songs as much as I enjoyed tracking them down.
Please note that these songs are posted for educational purposes only. If you like these songs, please support the artists and buy their records.
